Fine Dining in Kloof at Makaranga
Guests of Makaranga can enjoy three meals a day served in the elegant dining room or on the Tuscan Terrace. Morning and afternoon tea may also be provided for your pleasure. Our unique brand of personal service, delicious food and good old fashioned hospitality make this an ideal setting for a weekend leisure escape, a romantic honeymoon or a prestigious executive event.
Nonna
Our Victorian Warehouse, NONNA, spills out onto a pergola-covered deck which offers, we believe, one of the most beautiful views in the world. Guests have the option of dining inside NONNA or out on the covered all-weather deck while enjoying fresh Mediterranean cuisine and soaking up the views.
NONNA, a contemporary Italian bistro and deli, is fondly named after Makaranga matriarch, Danna Flack. Chick and Danna Flack bought the 30-acre property in 2002 and named it Makaranga after the towering wild poplar trees, which line the stream and also after the Makaranga tribe from Inyanga, Zimbabwe, where Danna spent her childhood. Since then Danna has delighted in all things Italian complete with taking on the Italian nomenclature NONNA since becoming a granny. The Bistro, it seems, in a most natural manner, almost named itself.
The open-plan kitchen which faces onto the restaurant produces tantalizing contemporary fare. Ashleigh Van Niekerk, Chef de Cuisine at NONNA, takes you on a taste and visual explosion with the NONNA menu. Click here to download a copy of the menu.
The walk-in wine cellar houses bee hand selected local and international offerings such as ……..
NONNA welcomes children who will no doubt enjoy their own special eating area, rolling their own pizza dough and partaking in our range of arts and crafts, all strategically placed within sight but not necessarily sound of you. A stretch of pergola-covered astro turf creates a safe and fun space for your children. There is also an outside structured play ground with a natural timbered gym, which is in close proximity to NONNA and THE DELI so that carers can take a well-deserved respite from their responsibilities while their children play on the rock garden and play gym with full visibility from the restaurant.
The restaurant will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Deli
NONNA integrates beautifully with our own homegrown deli, simply known as The Deli. While our esteemed restaurant is set to meet everyone’s needs, some of you may not be able to keep out of the gardens. If so, you are invited to select an indulgent picnic basket from THE DELI stocked with locally produced charcuterie, cheeses, breads and homegrown culinary delights.
The Deli staff will assist you in constructing your own picnic basket or you may select our off-the-shelf meat or vegetarian options. Picnic blankets, baskets and umbrellas are yours to hire and the garden offers abundant grasslands and some picnic chairs and tables for you to choose from.
The Deli delights will change from time to time but you can be assured of a constant supply of Mediterranean delights, a choice of breads and of course sweet treats galore.
The Library Bar
Before or after lunch you may want to take up some other options including wine tastings, cocktails, sundowners, coffee or gourmet teas while enjoying the view from the deck or cozying in the stylish but comfortable and relaxed Library Bar. Guests will also be able to enjoy sporting highlights over a beer or glass of wine.
In colder weather the all glass front is closed and a fire rages. In fair weather the Library Bar opens up fully onto the deck for a complete inside-outside experience taking in our truly magnificent views.
Our wine list features some of South Africa’s best cultivars and received a Dinner Award for 2007, 2008 & 2009.
Please ensure that you make a reservation to avoid disappointment.
